Presidential Award Finalist

Lollie Garay, a local teacher, has been declared one of three Texas state finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The winner will be announced in March 2004, but the nomination alone has already generated excitement at the Redd School, 4820 Strack Road, where Garay teaches third through eighth grade science.

Redd School Students Participate in Imagine Mars Project

On December 9, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. PST, elementary students from the Redd School in Houston, Texas, met via webcast with NASA engineers Randy Lindemann and Jessica Collisson. During the 30-minute interaction, students asked anything and everything they've ever wanted to know about Mars and NASA's martian missions, including "Will you be sending other rovers to Mars? What will they do?" and "Where would be the best place to build a community on Mars and why?" Collisson and Lindemann shared images from Mars and the Mars Exploration Rovers as they answered each question.
